The Tesla Model Y crossover was unveiled in Los Angeles on March 14, 2019. Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Inc. personally introduced the new model. During the presentation, current prototypes of the crossover were shown and available for test drives. Ilon Musk also revealed that the design of the Model Y is much the same as the Model 3. The novelty is a compact SUV, about 10% larger than the sedan in terms of overall dimensions. The difference in price is the same 10% upwards. The Model Y is expected to surpass the Model 3 in orders and become the most popular electric car in the Tesla lineup. First of all, such popularity is due to the type of the body – the crossover has a slightly increased ground clearance and greater capacity. The Long Range and Performance versions went into production first (fall 2020), with the Standard version joining the assembly line in spring 2021.
